What are the causes of jaw pain?

        Teeth grinding

Teeth grinding, or bruxism, is one of the leading causes of jaw pain. Habitually clenching and grinding your teeth can wear out the jaw joints and severely damage your teeth.

        Osteomyelitis

This is an infection and inflammation of the bone marrow that can affect the jaw. The infection often starts from the teeth and, when left untreated, can spread to the gums and to the bones. This is a serious health issue that needs immediate attention.

        Dental problems

Dental abscess and gum disease can also cause jaw pain as the infection spreads from your tooth and gums to the surrounding tissues, including the jaw bone. Meanwhile, missing teeth can put strain on your existing teeth, causing pain especially when you’re biting and chewing.

        TMD

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) happens when you have pain, tenderness, or even a clicking or popping sound, when you open or close your mouth. This can happen when you’re biting, chewing or talking, and is very uncomfortable.
