Does Medicare cover kids dental care?

Medicare is a very helpful government programs for seniors, kids, people with disabilities or anyone who is having financial problems and needs dental work. The Federal Government provides funding for dental treatment for eligible children through schemes such as the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Children who are aged 2 to 17 years are eligible for Medicare for basic dental services. They receive government benefits such as the Family Tax Benefit Part A.  This dental benefits program provides benefits of up to $1,000 per child every two years covering examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. This is called the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme

Since 2017, this scheme provides funding helps to states and territories while providing dental services for children, and adults.This dental scheme aims to provide emergency oral health to those Australians who cannot afford health insurance. Those who can afford get different levels of dental covers from general dental treatment to major dental procedures.  

Medicare dental procedure conditions:

Public oral health care to eligible adults, through the Queensland Oral Health Service. Battery Hill Dental are a recognised Queensland Oral Health provider. Services include general dentistry and are provided in clinics based in community health centers, hospitals and schools and mobile dental clinics.

Children must be under 18, eligible for Medicare.

  • Benefits for children

The Commonwealth-funded Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), provides up to $1,000 in benefits per child for over two consecutive years for the Children in NSW.

  • Fees

A scheme like Oral Health Fee For Service Scheme (OHFFSS) allows treatment from private dental practitioners. With voucher in hand, you can seek the same treatments that are provided in a public clinic. There’s a number of ways for you to know, if your child meet the criteria:
